Release Notes 2.14
This Update WILL disable the current installation of Proton Plus PIC BASIC Compiler.
After installation of the Update you WILL NOT be able to compile any program until after you have received and installed a NEW activation code, obtainable from Crownhill.
Under normal circumstances Crownhill will accept activation requests 24/7 via email. Assuming that your request is valid, your activation will be sent via email, during normal office hours 9am-5pm BST.
You must be prepared for some down time in the transition to Version 2.14. Activation can only be sent via email, if you or your ISP use a virus scanner or other file monitor, you may experience delays while the file is being processed.
Release Notes 2.15
Install 2.15 over 2.14, be sure to backup your work files first, use the same activation key that you received for version 2.14 to activate 2.15
Installation 2.14
- Once downloaded, you should unzip the file to a convenient directory from which you may run the Update. The Update will prompt for an installation directory, the default installation directory WILL OVERWRITE the previous default installation of Proton Plus PIC BASIC Compiler.
- To avoid overwriting the previous installation, select an alternative installation directory for the Update.
- During installation no harm should come to your work files, but as a precaution, you should back up your work files.
- There are two versions of the Update
- one for the standard installation (P+214.exe)
- one for the users that opted for USB License keys (P+214_USB.exe)
-
Please ensure that you download and run the correct Update
- You will need your Registration Number and Activation Code to enable the Download if you are using the standard product.
- If you are using the USB key option, you will need your Invoice Number to enable the Download.
- If you don't have any of the above, you will need to contact Crownhill to verify your eligibility for the download and FREE Update.
- For users of the Standard Installation and software License Key: Download the ZIP file, extract and run P+214.exe. Once installed, you will need to activate the application before you can use the compiler, there are NO trial days with this Update. You cannot compile using this Update until the application has been activated.
- To obtain your activation, please run the editor, select a program to compile and run the compiler. You will see a screen carrying instructions for the activation procedure. You will require the REGISTRATION CODE shown on that screen along with the Crownhill invoice number for the purchase of Proton Plus, or your ID so that Crownhill can match your request to its list of legitimate users. Please also mention that you require an activation for version 2.14. Full instructions on activation are available on the compiler window, upon the first un activated compilation.
- Users of the USB key may simply run and install P+214_USB.exe, there is NO activation required for USB Key Users
For Your Information
The Registration Number is generated by the compiler as a result of a "hardware hash," a long sequence of numbers based on a information found in your computer's hardware. To generate the Registration Number we may use any or all or none of the following:-
Display adapter
SCSI adapter
IDE adapter
Network adapter MAC address
RAM amount range
Processor type
Processor serial number
Hard drive
Hard drive volume serial number
CD-ROM, CD-RW, or DVD-ROM
FAQ
Q: What if my hard disk crashes or a virus attacks, and I have to reformat?
A:You'll have to activate the compiler again. However, since all your hardware is the same, you can use the same activation that we send you for the activation of the update. So, store your activation safely, otherwise you'll have to contact us again and go through a laborious Re-Activation process.
Q:What if I upgrade my hardware?
A: Theoretically, upgrading a single component in your system won't reset the activation key. However, simultaneously upgrading several components in your system, and reinstalling the compiler will cause a new Registration Number to be generated and you'll probably have to get a new activation. Likewise, if you purchase an entirely new computer and install your existing copy of the compiler on the new machine, you'll certainly have to obtain a new activation from Crownhill.
Q: Can I get a second activation?? Won't Crownhill reject a request for a second activation if I already have one? Isn't that the whole purpose of product activation?
A: You can have two activations for your own use, it's part of the License agreement. You simply need to call Crownhill and explain that you need a second activation. If you need a third, we'll even stretch to that. However more than three in 1 year and we'll suggest that you swap over to the USB key option. This will allow you to keep your activation on a USB Key, thus there is no need to contact Crownhill as you move form one machine to another.
Q: So, I can install the compiler on many different machines and use the USB Key to activate each copy as I use it?
A: Yes!
Q: Can I get an activation with out contacting Crownhill?
A: Not really. There are a number of "cracks" on the web that reportedly circumvent the activation, but they will not be listed here. From what we ahve seen, most have bugs and anomolies that were not in the original program.
Q: Why do you protect your software, when others selling similar products don't bother.
A: We protect our compiler because we cannot afford the cost of mass Piracy, something that has affected the sales of our competitors and has recently affected us. Software piracy results in reduced revenue to us, this in turn takes funds away from the financing and development of new products, from the upgrading of existing products, and from customer support . For you, the result is a less innovative product, as well as less support, ultimately leading to the demise of the product.
As a small company, with a product that is aimed at a niche market, selling at a very competitive price, we cannot rely on legitimate sales to prop up the loss of revenue from piracy. High levels of Piracy will ultimately lead to a higher product price, since to fund the continued development and support we have to pass on the losses incurred from piracy to the end user. The increase in price may well damage sales, thus the end result is the demise of the product.
If you use a cracked copy of the compiler you are further subjected to risks when the poor quality crack contains bugs or security holes that were introduced during the illegal cracking process. Then when you contact the forum for support you risk discovery because it becomes obvious that you're using an illegal copy. You probably won't be getting much support either!
